Back to Balance with Natural Protocols for Healing the Body

There are moments when we realise – enough. Enough with the struggles, enough with the arguments. What matters most right now is healing and going back to balance.
This healing does not come from the outside, but from within our own body. It becomes possible when we nourish ourselves properly, release blockages, and allow nature to do its work.

In recent years, several natural protocols have been developed to help the body cope with overload, side effects, and systemic weakness. Here we will focus on two of the most prominent ones:

Dr Peter McCullough’s Protocol – Support for Blood, Inflammation, and Clotting

The American cardiologist Dr. Peter McCullough proposed a science-based approach for cleansing and restoring the blood and immune systems, especially for people who experienced side effects after vaccines or viral infections.
The protocol focuses on three main components:

1. Nattokinase

  • What it is: A unique enzyme derived from a traditional Japanese fermented food called natto (fermented soybeans).

  • Benefits: Helps break down micro blood clots, cleans blood vessels, improves circulation, and supports the heart and cardiovascular system.

  • In foods: Found mainly in natto.

  • As a supplement: Available in capsules in various dosages (it is recommended to consult a professional before use).

2. Bromelain

  • What it is: A protein-digesting enzyme extracted from the stem and fruit of pineapple.

  • Benefits: Strong anti-inflammatory, helps reduce swelling, supports digestion and the immune system.

  • In foods: Fresh pineapple, especially the stem and core.

  • As a supplement: Capsules or powder, sometimes combined with quercetin to enhance the effect.

3. Curcumin

  • What it is: The active compound in turmeric.

  • Benefits: One of the most potent natural anti-inflammatories, protects the liver, balances immune function, and is a powerful antioxidant.

  • In foods: Fresh turmeric root or spice. Recommended to combine with black pepper (piperine) to improve absorption.

  • As a supplement: Available in concentrated forms with enhanced absorption (such as Curcumin BCM-95 or Phytosome).

Dr. McCullough defines this combination as a basic protocol that can be expanded, meaning that additional components may be added as needed, depending on personal condition and with proper guidance (such as quercetin, resveratrol, vitamin D, and more).

Barbara O’Neill’s Protocol – Support for the Immune System and Cleansing

The Australian naturopath Barbara O’Neill focuses on a simple holistic approach: strengthening the immune system and using nature’s gifts for gentle cleansing of the body.
At the center of her protocol stand three main components:

1. Zinc

  • Benefits: Essential for immune function, restores mucous membranes, accelerates wound healing, protects against viruses.

  • In foods: Pumpkin seeds, cashew nuts, chickpeas, lentils, oysters.

  • As a supplement: Available as picolinate/gluconate/citrate, usually 15–30 mg per day.

2. Dandelion

  • Benefits: Considered a liver and kidney detoxifier, supports bile flow, acts as a mild diuretic, and strengthens the immune system.

  • In foods: Young dandelion leaves in salads, dried root as tea.

  • As a supplement: Tea, tincture, or capsules.

3. White Pine Needle Tea

  • Benefits: Rich in vitamin C, phytonutrients, and antioxidants, strengthens the respiratory and immune systems, and supports gentle blood cleansing.

  • In foods: Infusion made from fresh or dried pine needles (preferably white pine).

  • As a supplement: Extracts and essential oils are available (but for tea, fresh or dried needles are recommended).

Dr. Barbara emphasises that you don’t need to take all her components every day; you can choose one component each day from the protocol and still benefit from the natural support and variety they provide.

Extra Tip From Me – Star Anise and Shikimic Acid

When preparing your white pine needle tea, add a star anise.
Star anise is especially rich in shikimic acid – a natural molecule that was the basis for the development of one of the most common antiviral drugs in the world.
In the infusion, this acid blends with the compounds in the pine needles and enhances the immune-supportive and cellular cleansing effects.

The Bottom Line

Both protocols – McCullough’s and O’Neill’s – offer different paths to the same goal: restoration and strengthening. The combination of enzymes, anti-inflammatories, vitamins, and medicinal plants gives the body fundamental tools to return to balance. And the little star – literally – is the anise, which adds a unique layer of natural and powerful support.

What does the professional literature say?

  • A 2023 article titled Clinical Approach to Post-acute Sequelae After COVID-19 Infection and Vaccination proposes a basic front-line protocol (“base spike detoxification protocol”) that includes oral administration of nattokinase, bromelain, and curcumin for the treatment of post-COVID-19 or post-vaccination syndromes ScienceOpen+PMC+ResearchGate.
  • Another study from 2022 found that in vitro, nattokinase is indeed able to degrade the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein in a dose- and time-dependent manner Medium+PMC+effectivehealthcare.ahrq.gov.
  • However, a systematic (and well-controlled) study on the effects of nattokinase on the vaccine-derived spike protein is still needed – as of September 2024, the institution expected to issue such reports (the EPC Program) stated that there are not enough clinical trials to support such a conclusion effectivehealthcare.ahrq.gov.
